Early Beginnings in the Boating Industry

1989

My career in boating began as a teenager, working in a retail boat showroom on London’s Kensington High Street. My late father, a retired Royal Navy officer, was hired to open this showroom, aimed at attracting high-profile clientele, including royalty, celebrities, and businessmen. I started in the chandlery department, eventually moving to boat sales. As the primary distributor of the French Zodiac Inflatable Boats, we were among the first in the tender market. My first superyacht experience involved assisting with placing a Zodiac tender on Tommy Sopwith’s 70-foot Philante V. My father also participated in offshore powerboat racing, using it as a networking opportunity. I often piloted a Zodiac tender to ferry drivers to shore and the yacht club.

Growing with Zodiac in Canada, Australia, and France

1995

My journey with Zodiac continued when I helped establish the brand’s distribution in Canada, based in Vancouver, and later in Australia with a subsidiary in Sydney. Eventually, I became Marketing Director in Paris, where I worked on RIB tenders for yachts,. We launched the first production inboard waterjet tender, the Zodiac Projet, propelled by Yamaha and revealed at the 1990 Chicago Boat Show. This model gained popularity among mid-sized yachts in the USA. Success led us to introduce the Yachtline and Eclipse series, the latter featuring a foam collar system. Built in Vancouver, we expanded to the Proluxe range with diesel inboards  up to 10 meters in    length. With yacht sizes increasing, we were now supplying tenders for much larger vessels, many protected by NDAs. Later, I became the first CEO of the Zodiac Milpro division prior to it being sold off.

Launching Boating Matters and Building a Client Network

2006

In 2006, after 25 years with Zodiac, I launched Boating Matters, continuing to represent the Zodiac Hurricane brand under an exclusive contract (now expired). Relocating to the Netherlands, close to leading Dutch and German superyacht yards, I built a network of superyacht clients and collaborated with shipyards, yacht managers, and industry influencers. I began specializing in project-managing customized tenders, especially SOLAS rescue boats required for large charter yachts. Recognizing a demand, I focused on customizing tenders within regulatory standards, developing both modified and original designs to meet these requirements.

Full-Service Support for Yacht Tenders

Beyond sales, I support tenders throughout their life cycle with repairs, rebuilds, parts, servicing, and replacements. Additionally, I offer temporary rental services for SOLAS tenders, meeting yachts’ regulatory needs when needed. Over the years, I have established a base of clients dating back to the 1990s. I take pride in providing these clients with high-quality, reliable service and look forward to welcoming new clients into this trusted network.

“I own the all services yachting company - BURGESS. I am aware that our new build team have used Tim Fleming many times to help source the perfect tender (often with complicated specification or unusual requirements and/or dimensions) for one of our Superyachts. Our new build team sing Tim's praises for his font of knowledge and willingness to help. I have personally just had the pleasure of using Tim Fleming's services.

I am buying a personal yacht (a sailing yacht) and have very requirements for a tender- size, weight, speed, people carrying capability, watersports, etc. This is the only Tender that we will carry. Tim has been absolutely amazing in helping us research the market to find the optimum boat. I am totally impressed with Tim's knowledge and ability to perform and I would recommend Tim's services wholeheartedly .”
